Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI)
Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) offers free pre-K to qualifying families through the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI). The purpose of VPI is to provide quality preschool programs for 4-year-olds who qualify (see below qualification guidelines). VPI is a program designed for families who might not otherwise be able to access quality early childhood education opportunities. For more information about the VPI program, please see Pre-K Units of Study.
Manassas City Public Schools utilizes the Virginia Pre-School Initiative to serve at-promise 4-year-olds in the City of Manassas. We engage two innovative, shared responsibility models to fully utilize available funds. We recognize that family and community engagement is essential for student achievement. Manassas City Public Schools is committed to developing early learning services that enable families and caregivers, teachers, administrators, community-based partners, businesses and social service agencies, to help their children at school, at home, and in our community. Though families may qualify, spaces are limited and selection is based on need, not “first come, first serve.” The application process begins December 1 for the upcoming school year. However, it is important for all families to apply as soon as possible.
How does my child qualify for FREE preschool?
1. Your child must be 4-years-old before September 30th; and
2. Families must meet qualifying income-eligible guidelines; and
3. Families must live in a school attendance area served by VPI.
Where do I apply?
Please contact your neighborhood school or fill out the PreK Interest Form 2019-20 School Year to start the application process. A student's neighborhood school is determined by the student's home address. Interest forms will be accepted from December 3, 2018-April 12, 2019. Interest forms submitted after April 12 will be place on a waiting list.
***PreK Interest Form for the 2020-21 School Year will become available on January 6, 2020.***
