Principal Karis Brooks

Hello, Haydon Elementary School Community!

I am so thrilled to be a part of this wonderful community and to serve as the Principal of this great school!

This is my 22nd year in public school education and I continue to enjoy working with students, parents, and top-notch educators! I am originally from Newport News, Virginia and I worked for Newport News Public Schools for 13 years as a Classroom Teacher, Reading Recovery Teacher®, Reading Specialist, Adult Education ABE, GED, and ESL Teacher, and Adult Education Administrator.  I have also worked for the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center as a Staff Trainer, Curriculum Writer, and Conference Presenter.

For 3 years, I served as the Director of K-12 Reading, English Language Arts, & Community Outreach for Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  Most recently, I served as the Assistant Principal of Lowes Island Elementary School in Loudoun County Public Schools for the last 5 years.

I’ve earned degrees from North Carolina Central University (BA), The College of William & Mary (MA), and The George Washington University (Ed S) in Elementary Education, Reading, and Administration and Supervision, respectively.

I am married to Rondell Brooks, who is a Deputy Sheriff for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.  We live in Ashburn, VA with a beautiful daughter named Kaissel and a Papillon/Shih Tzu dog named Pebbles.

This will be a momentous year of learning at Haydon!

Please do not hesitate to contact me and have a wonderful school year!

Degrees and Certifications:

Assistant Principal Kimberly Young

I’ve been a passionate educator for twenty years!  I’m a native of Chesapeake, VA and began my career 2000 with Norfolk Public Schools as a second grade teacher after earning a Bachelor's degree from Norfolk State University. I was recognized for my use of literature to teach the Standards of Learning to my students.  As a result, I was encouraged to pursue an endorsement to become a Library Media Specialist from Old Dominion University.  It was exciting to be able to teach, conduct professional development sessions, and work with a broader group of the school community as a Library Media Specialist.  Shortly after earning a Master's in Educational Leadership from Regent University, I relocated to Manassas, Virginia where I was able to continue my role as a Library Media Specialist at Haydon Elementary.   I’ve also partnered with teachers in DC Public Schools as an Instructional Coach to improve student achievement.  It has been rewarding to come back to Haydon as an Assistant Principal where I’ve been able to continue my passion as an educator!  Seeing students engaged in learning as a result of quality instruction is a priority for me at Haydon Elementary!
