Degrees and Certifications:
Assistant Principal Kimberly Young
I’ve been a passionate educator for fifteen years! I’m a native of Chesapeake, VA and my career began in Norfolk Public Schools as a second grade teacher after earning a Bachelor's degree from Norfolk State University. I was recognized for my use of literature to teach the Standards of Learning to my students. As a result, I was encouraged to pursue an endorsement to become a Library Media Specialist from Old Dominion University. It was exciting to be able to teach, conduct professional development sessions, and work with a broader group of the school community as a Library Media Specialist. Shortly after earning a Master's in Educational Leadership from Regent University, I relocated to Manassas, Virginia where I was able to continue my role as a Library Media Specialist at Haydon Elementary. I’ve also partnered with teachers in DC Public Schools as an Instructional Coach to improve student achievement. It has been rewarding to come back to Haydon as an Assistant Principal where I’ve been able to continue my passion as an educator! Seeing students engaged in learning as a result of quality instruction is a top priority for me at Haydon Elementary!
