This course places emphasis on developing proficiency in using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals to solve problems. Instruction will include the basic elements of numbers and number sense; computation and estimation; measurement and geometry; probability and statistics; and patterns, functions, and algebra. Particular attention will be paid to the development of problem solving strategies (single and multi-step problems) to enhance higher level thinking. Students will be asked to develop written explanations of mathematical processes used in problem solving. Students will be presented specialized math vocabulary to enhance their understanding of the concepts.
