ENGLISH 11 COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students of English 11 will read and analyze a variety of American literature, critically reflecting upon the historical and social context—as well as cultural significance—of each work.  Students will write through a variety of formats, developing vocabulary and grammar skills beneficial to postsecondary success.  This course will stress skills related to formal research, public speaking, and note-taking.

Students will take two End of Course (EOC) English Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments during the eleventh grade school year: EOC Writing and EOC Reading.  The EOC Writing assessment is generally administered in early March.  The EOC Reading assessment will be administered towards the conclusion of the school year.  Both EOC assessments cover SOL standards across English 9, English 10, and English 11.  Testing dates will be released later in the school year.

Students of English 12 will read and analyze a variety of British literature, critically reflecting upon the historical and social context—as well as cultural significance—of each work.  Students will write through a variety of formats, developing vocabulary and grammar skills beneficial to postsecondary success.  This course will stress skills related to formal research, public speaking, and note-taking.
