I have been a teacher in the public school system for 38 years. Of those. 37 have been with Manassas City Public Schools. During that time I have taught over 17 different courses within two departments. Some of these courses are: Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Money Management, Introduction to Marketing, Advanced Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, Keyboarding Applications, Office Administration, COE and Leadership. During this time I have also gone through the process of proposing new classes to our curriculum. The courses that I have developed and that have been added include: Fashion Merchandising, Money Management, Leadership and Word Processing for Personal Use.
In 2015, I was recoginized as the Southern Business Education Secondary Teacher of the Year. In 2016, I was recogninzed as the National Business Education Association Secondary Teacher of the Year. It is truly humbling to be recognized by one's peers.
Nationally, I have been recognized through Who’s Who Among Americas Teachers on 5 different occasions and was part of the team that was recognized by the Association of Career and Technical Education National Program of Excellence in Business Education. In 1998 our program placed 2nd and in 2004 the department was recognized as 1st place Business and Information Technology program in the country.
Currently, certified in Microsoft Word XP,IC3, i-SAFE and hold a Certificate of Technology. In addition, I have developed and conducted workshops on the local, regional and national level for both Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Virginia Busines Educaiton Associaiton, Southern Business Education Association and the National Business Education Association. Dana Dingell indicated that, “She can often be found presenting or facilitating a session, and is generally one of the first to volunteer to help make our professional conferences successful”.
I work closely with two student organziations within our building. I am the lead sponsor for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). I co-sponsor the OHS Student Council Association.
